IdeaTek and Halstead Partner to Offer Discounted Fiber Internet Rates

HALSTEAD, Kansas – IdeaTek, a Buhler-based fiber internet provider, is partnering with the City of Halstead to offer discounted fiber internet rates to residents and small businesses for the next two years.

The partnership is part of the city’s long-range strategic goal to have fiber internet infrastructure available to all residents and businesses in the city. IdeaTek is privately investing $1.5 million in the project. Halstead city leaders also approved the use of a portion of the American Rescue Plan Act dollars received by the City of Halstead to improve infrastructure.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the city of Halstead to help bring faster and more reliable internet services to the community,” said James Krstolich, IdeaTek’s Community and Public Relations Manager. “This partnership represents a significant achievement for both IdeaTek and the city of Halstead, and it is an important step forward in our commitment to providing high-speed, reliable, and affordable internet services to communities across Kansas.”

As part of the partnership, new residential pricing will include three tiers of service:

●  Super Gig (2,500 Mbps download / 2,500 Mbps upload) for $125 a month (10% discount)

●  Gig (1,000 Mbps download /1,000 Mbps upload) for $70 a month (22% discount)

●  Basic (100 Mbps download / 100 Mbps upload) for $45 a month (10% discount)

In addition, there will be no installation fee for new customers who sign up for IdeaTek’s fiber internet service. Non-enterprise business owners can also get IdeaTek’s gigabit plan at discounted rates.

Halstead City Manager Ethan Reimer said the city is fortunate to have found a partner with IdeaTek – a company that is willing to undertake the project to provide reliable fiber-optic service to the entire city. As part of this partnership, IdeaTek will also provide free public Wi-Fi hot spots at community locations such as the swimming pool, Scout Park and downtown Halstead.

“The City of Halstead is very pleased to engage and work with a dedicated community partner like IdeaTek to help improve the internet options, connectivity and speeds available to all of our residents, businesses and industries – ensuring that Halstead is set up for long-term success,” said Reimer. “IdeaTek has a proven track record of success and a history of being involved in the communities they serve. IdeaTek’s mission of providing Internet Freedom for All aligns with one of the strategic goals identified by our community during the development of the Halstead Community Strategic Plan, and the city looks forward to IdeaTek’s presence in Halstead and the ongoing partnership.”

Construction of the fiber internet infrastructure in Halstead began in December and is expected to be completed by the end of April. IdeaTek technicians are currently splicing fiber – one of the final steps in the process of delivering fiber to homes.

A ribbon cutting to celebrate the conclusion of the project is scheduled for 2 p.m. April 18 at the Halstead Chamber of Commerce. Refreshments will be served, and IdeaTek’s sales team will be available to discuss service plans.
